The Dell was originally built to house the head forester of Seafield Estate, who kindly planted many of the different species towering head and shoulders above the house today. Beech and Horse Chestnut, Oak, and the fragrant Lime, which has been known to ‘calm ones nerves by simply walking beneath’.
The Dell has been in the family since the late sixties when Polly’s Grandparents John and Elizabeth Fleming bought it after it had laid empty for some time. Amongst many things Grandpa John was a carpenter and together they set about the first round of renovations and created the holiday destination it is today. Uncle John took the helm on their retirement and now the Dell is home to Polly, husband Ross and their two young boys.
Ross and Polly moved to The Dell from nearby Rothiemurchus where they had their busy restaurant Ord Ban, a round the clock eatery with great food, live music and an art house cinema. Previous to this they had landed on a remote Pacific island managing a ‘picture paradise’ beach resort. Now in their ‘spare time’ they co-produce the Insider Festival, a boutique music event set within the valley.
